Mmmm...cake! It's not a real party until there's cake! Our beautiful boy Oli turned 11 this week, and we (of course!) had to celebrate...and that meant there HAD to be a doggone delicious barkday cake!

{RECIPE} St. Patrick's Day Hound's Holiday Hash Cookies
These cookies were inspired by Irish hash, although I somehow doubt my grandmother would approve of this particular recipe. :) These St. Patrick's Day dog treats combine potato, kale, egg, and beef into a naturally green dog-friendly baked cookie. Corned beef would be far too salty for our furry friends, but salt-free homemade dog beef jerky chunks in a colcannon-inspired dough? Doggone delicious. Lucky doggies indeed!

{RECIPE} Tasty Turkey Meatloaf Dog Birthday Cake
Our next few posts will share the DIY details from Humphrey's first birthday, and what better place to start than with cake? This is a party after all, so what not have the cake first! There is something about a nice tall layer cake that really makes it feel like a special celebration, isn't there? The smell of meat cooking in the kitchen is a really exciting event for our dogs. For personal reasons, I converted to a vegetarian diet some time ago and
hubby also limits his consumption, so meat isn't usually on the menu unless we are cooking for guests or (of course) the pampered pets. Since I wanted this cake to be more of an indulgent birthday dinner than a dessert, I opted to make it meaty - much to the joy and delight of my salivating sous-chefs.
