{RECIPE} Tangy Cream Cheese Carrot Balls

Inspired by the classic combo of carrot cake and cream cheese frosting, these savory dog treats are not quite so naughty, but are still an indulgent snack for a doggone special pup or celebratory occasion.

Tangy Cream Cheese Carrot Balls (Dog Treats)
1/2 block (~125g) of reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp ground flax
1 tbsp dried parsley (optional)
1 tbsp dog-safe Italian herbs (optional)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour or equivalent substitute
1 large carrot, grated
Additional water and/or flour if/as needed for consistency

Preheat oven to 180C. Combine cream cheese, flax. and herbs.  Incrementally add flour, stirring to thoroughly combine.  Add the shredded carrot and mix to distribute through the dough. Hand shape into bite-sized balls, place on a prepared cookie sheet, and bake for approximately 15 minutes.  Cool before serving and storage.

Tips and Tricks:
  • Although reduced-fat cream cheese is a good protein-rich alternative using butter, these are still an indulgent dog treat, so enjoy in moderation.
  • These treats can be frozen if you would like to freeze extras - it is a large batch.
  • You can substitute flour for a gluten-free treat, if you wish. Alter quantities if/as needed for consistency.
