{RECIPE} Tuna and Turmeric Dog Treats

Next up in our May collection of savory and meaty treats are our super smelly (oh how the dogs love them!) Tuna and Turmeric Dog Treats.  You can omit the healthy add-ins if you prefer a plainer tuna biscuit dog treat - they will still be stinkily doglicious. These treats are best baked on a nice day when you can open the kitchen window(s). :)

Tuna and Turmeric Dog Treats

1 small (95g) can of water-packed tuna
1 egg
3 tbsp ground flax
1 tbsp turmeric
sprinkle of black pepper
handful of freshly chopped fresh parsley (can substitute a sprinkle of dried)
3/4 cup wholemeal flour
Additional flour or water if/as needed to adjust for consistency

Combine the undrained tuna and egg, then mix in all ingredients - incrementally adding the flour last. You can add a little bit of water or additional flour to adjust consistency if needed. Roll into small balls and flatten gently with a fork.  Bake at 180C for approximately 12 minutes.  Allow to cool before storage and serving.

Tips and Tricks:
  • You can substitute another flour if your dog is wheat or gluten sensitive.
  • These treats can be frozen if you would like to freeze extras or make a large batch for later.
  • The treats can be broken for smaller dogs, or made smaller - just keep an eye on your cooking time, as the smaller the cookie the shorter the baking time.
