DIY Christmas Dog Treats + Gifts for Aspiring Pet Chefs

It's almost time for our howliday blogging break, and today we're wrapping up our 2016 posts with a double posting dose of festive inspiration. First up we have a round-up of tasty Christmas treats from our archives and recent posts that you can make and share with your furfriends, a free holiday dog treat cookbook (yay!), and ideas for Christmas kitchen-themed presents for animal-loving bakers and/or budding pet chefs. We also have a follow-on post with Last Minute Christmas Gifts for the Dogs + Their Humans (don't miss our silly little Christmas GIF at the end of that post) then it's time to start our own blogging holidays!

From upper left: Stacked Star Christmas Trees | Carob and Coconut Snowballs | Festive Fruity Truffles | Frozen Yogurt Stars | Coconut Oil and Carob Snowmen | Beetroot and Carob "Red Velvet" Truffles | Blackstrap Molasses and Coconut Carob Kisses | Gingerbread Jiggler Dog Treats with Yogurt Frosting | "Mistletoe" Mini Meatballs with Breath Freshening Parsley | Naturally Golden Turmeric Gummy Stars  (You also can explore all of our Christmas-themed posts here, or visit our Christmas board on Pinterest for even more ideas!)

I'm also excited to share with you that we recently collaborated with Kurgo to contribute to their 2016 Holiday Cookbook - download your free copy here! The Kurgo Holiday Cookbook is a fun little e-book filled with recipes from various bloggers and treat companies, including our Pumpkin Treats, Autumn Apple Puppy Pies, and festive "Mistletoe" Mini Meatballs with Breath Freshening Parsley (pictured above) along with twelve more temping doggy treat recipes from other contributors.  Check it out!

Of course, your treats can be any shape, size, style, or flavour that you and your dogs might enjoy.  Don't limit yourself to the holidays - if your dog's dream treat is a stinky salmon biscuit or other not so festive snack, indulge! :)  You can explore all of our treats here, or visit our DIY Dog Treat recipe board on Pinterest for more ideas from all over.

If you have a keen (dog-mad) baker or an aspiring pet chef on your shopping list, or are simply keen to do more dog treat cooking and baking yourself why not add a few kitchen gadgets and gizmos to the holiday gift list?  Hint: You can even buy a few for yourself and wrap them up from the dogs. Yes!  Do it for the giggles!  Here are some pawesome gift ideas for animal-loving bakers - find them online or grab inspiration and head to your local shops. Whether its cookie cutters, molds, gloves, or gadets, there are plenty of dog/paw themed kitchen items to choose from. While they aren't specifically doggy, mini circle plungers are a pawesome pet chef stocking stuffer idea as well - they are so handy for making lots of little pocket/training sized treats quickly. I love mine and use them often.

Of course, while dog-specific madness is always fun, general purpose baking gear makes a great gift idea too (of course!), and there's plenty of cool stocking stuffer opportunities. Cookie cutters and cookie stamps are inexpensive and fun, and little kitchen utensils are always handy.  Christmas is a great time for bigger-item pressie hints like dehydrators, food processors, mixers, etc too and don't forget about boxing day/week bargains, especially if you're shopping for yourself.  Let's make 2017 a most delicious year indeed!

We'll be taking a blogging break for the next few weeks, but will check in on our comments, emails, and social media over the holidays as time allows.  Have a very Merry Barkmas and we'll see you again next year!
