Tomorrow is the first official day of summer here (although it feels more like hot chocolate weather today), and we're sneaking in a quick and cool summer treat to celebrate. We'll be back tomorrow to begin our December Barkmas Bonanza with a Christmas post every weekday until we begin our holidays. :) Woofs!
Plain Low-Fat Yogurt
Scale the volumes to suit the size of your mold or ice cube tray.
White/Vanilla - Spoon 1/3 of your plain yogurt into your mold or ice cube tray, covering the bottom of each shape/mold to approximately 1/3 of the volume. Freeze until firm. Brown/Chocolate - Add a small amount of carob powder to 1/3 of your vogurt. Layer on top of your frozen plain layer. Freeze until firm. Red/Strawberry - Mash strawberries and mix to combine with 1/3 of your yogurt (or use a pre-flavoured dog-safe yogurt). Layer on top of your frozen plain and chocolate layers. Freeze until firm and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks:
- We use low fat / low sugar yogurt. Go natural or take care when when shopping to avoid artificial sweeteners in ingredients used for your dogs - xylitol is particularly dangerous for dogs.
- Not keen on dairy? Pureed banana and/or coconut milk are potential neutral-coloured alternatives. You can experiment anything pet-safe, including simple water, as the base. Get creative! Its fun!
- Any tray will do, but flexible ice-cube trays work great for freezing fun shaped treats.
- Store and serve from the freezer. These treats will melt quickly, especially in warm temperatures and can be messy while your pup is licking merrily, so these are best enjoyed from a bowl or outside.
